So chalk this whole article to an old nerd not liking reboots buy I’m not typically the type to complain. New ninja turtles? Ok I guess, it’s not good but fine. New all girls Ghostbusters? Sure! Funny is funny and we need more female centric hero stories.
But then you went to the well and pulled out my Power Rangers. And you don’t want to make new Rangers for a new generation but you actively seek to update MY Rangers. Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Zack, And Trinni. The OG Rangers.
Ok fine, maybe it’ll be cool, all the positivity and moral values I got from that show could be good to this upcoming generation perhaps even needed. There is also certainly nothing wrong with seeing Rangers with updated visuals and dialogue. More Kaiju and mechs brought into the modern world aint bad either.
But then I saw the trailer. Are these new Rangers the same upstanding moral figures who trained hard in the martial arts and taught me things like bullying is wrong and that a caring friendship is a powerful force? Nope, they are the millennial punk breakfast club. Maybe they will get there and I’m judging too early, I love Power Rangers enough to see the movie for sure so I’ll with old my judgement. I’m not sold on this bent towards dark they are taking but we will see.
And super strength? Really?
